New book explains Easter miracle using object lessons
Tanya Packer’s new children’s book teaches biblical story of Jesus’ persecution, burial, resurrection
ALERT BAY, British Columbia – In Tanya Packer’s new children’s devotional “Kaylee’s Easter Treasure” (published by WestBow Press), Kaylee’s family has moved from the city to the country and celebrates their first Easter at a new parish. Young readers follow along as Kaylee, Daddy, their cat named Sir Thomas and Nanny explore the Easter tradition using biblical object lessons.
Kaylee and Daddy attend Palm Sunday service at their new church one Sunday afternoon. After the service, Daddy asks Kaylee to help him sort through some boxes in the basement of their new home. While helping Daddy search for Nanny’s youth group items, Kaylee comes across a bentwood box that contains a very special paper box – an Easter treasure box.
As Kaylee, Daddy and Nanny explore the contents of the paper box, they tell an Easter story. Each treasure relates to a certain event in the Easter story, teaching Kaylee new things about the Easter miracle from Jesus riding a donkey into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday to his prayer in the garden, to his crucifixion, burial and resurrection.
Packer’s book shows the importance of each object in the Easter treasure box, teaching children the biblical Easter story in an easy-to-understand way. At the end of the book, Packer features an interactive section of parent-child discussion items, noting where the objects mentioned can be found in the Bible, listed according to book, chapter and verse.
